Position Overview:
Our Joyful Food Markets provide access to healthy and nutritious food through monthly pop-up events at more than 50 elementary schools in Wards 7 and 8. Families can shop at no cost for high-quality produce and pantry staples. This position will support Martha’s Table’s Market Leaders to complete essential set-up and operational tasks to ensure that grocery bags are pre-packaged for the grab-and-go model adopted at some JFMs.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Market Leader with market set-up tasks, including setting up tables, food items, and other supplies
- Support unloading and organizing produce and dry goods deliveries from vendors
- Package several hundred bags with the designated food items
- Breaking down and cleaning up the packaging area at the end of the shift

- Interpersonal skills: Interacting with other volunteers and staff effectively to ensure a seamless market experience
- Communication skills: Actively listening to other volunteers and staff when they communicate their needs
- Problem-solving and time-management skills: Working in a fast-paced market environment to balance operational needs vs. the needs of the market. For example, if we are out of stock of a popular food item, but the line is very long.
- Leadership skills: If necessary, delegate tasks to other volunteers so they can effectively support you
- Organizational skills: Package food items in to pre-made bags in an assembly line
Working Description:
While performing the duties of this job, the assistant may be asked to stand for extended periods of time, comfortably lift 30-50 lbs., and maintain an active shift.
