Position Overview:
The Food Prep Volunteer shift at Maycroft directly supports McKenna's Wagon program by preparing and packing hot meals and sandwich bags for evening meal distribution.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow recipe directions and instructions
- Practice kitchen safety rules (washing hands, sanitizing, wearing gloves, closed-toe shoes, and hair net) at all times
- Use of basic knife skills (chopping, slicing, etc.) and kitchen appliances (blender, stove, oven, dehydrator, etc.)
- Portioning, packing, and storing food samples and meals
- Label all leftover ingredients and stored samples with “best by date” on them
- Ensure walk-in maintenance and organization per the staff’s directions
- Load van with food when necessary
- Kitchen clean-up
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Developed May Include:
- Basic kitchen skills: Working with various kitchen tools and equipment.
- Communication skills: Actively listening to staff members regarding kitchen protocols.
- Organizational skills: Ensuring all ingredients and kitchen supplies are in their correct place after use.
- Teamwork skills: Working with other volunteers and staff members to ensure the samples are made according to directions.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the assistant may be asked to stand for extended periods of time, comfortably lift 30 lbs., and maintain an active shift.
