At Martha’s Table, we warmly welcome our bilingual neighbors to join us as volunteers in our Healthy Markets! Your support is essential in creating a welcoming and accessible environment for all families, helping distribute fresh, nutritious food while we strengthen our community together.Position Overview:
McKenna’s Wagon is Martha’s Table’s mobile food van, which provides a hot meal 365 days a year to neighbors experiencing hunger and housing insecurity. The McKenna’s Wagon Assistant will ensure that food service each night is a success by helping to set up, manage, and break down the hot meal distribution at two sites in downtown DC. They will also provide exemplary customer service for our neighbors visiting the wagon.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Distribution of food items to neighbors
- Line Management
- Set up a food distribution table, including hot meals and supplemental food
- Maintaining a tidy space for food distribution
- Assist with breakdown and transportation of materials from 1st site to 2nd site
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Developed May Include:
- Customer Service: all guests are greeted with a smile and positive attitude.
- Problem-solving skills: In the event of inclement weather or issues arising, the assistant will be able to think through possible solutions.
- Organizational skills: Ensuring van is packed and repacked efficiently.
- Communication skills: Actively listening to both neighbors and team members, announcing meals to each client in real-time.
- Teamwork: Assistants collaborate to create a positive experience for McKenna's Wagon guests.
Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the assistant may be asked to stand for extended periods of time, comfortably lift at least 30 lbs., and maintain an active shift.
