Volunteer: Healthy Happy Hour

Position Overview: 

The Healthy Happy Hour series is designed to further promote food access to D.C. families at our headquarters, The Commons. During this activity, participants receive mocktails, healthy snacks, take-home produce (from our garden), nutrition education, and engage in emotional wellness discussions/activities. This workshop is held on our garden terrace, helping to provide much-needed access to safe, usable green space in the local community while addressing wellness needs.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist team members with set-up tasks, including setting up tables, baskets, and other suppliesPrepare and serve food and drink itemsEnsure the market is stocked with grocery items Interact with community members in a front-facing role to provide excellent customer service 

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Developed May Include:

Interpersonal skills: Interacting with other volunteers and staff effectively to ensure a seamless market experienceCommunication skills: Actively listening to other volunteers, staff, and community members when they communicate their needsProblem-solving and time-management skills: Working in a fast-paced market environment to balance operational needs vs. the needs of the market. For example, if we are out of stock of a popular food item, but the line is very long.Leadership skills: If necessary, delegate tasks to other volunteers so they can effectively support youOrganizational skills: Ensure food inventory and supplies are stocked neatly 

Working Description: 

While performing the duties of this job, the assistant may be asked to stand for extended periods of time, comfortably lift 30-50 lbs., and maintain an active shift.
