Position Overview: 

The Martha's Table Market promotes healthy food access through no-cost grocery markets at our locations in Southeast and Northwest D.C. This position will support Martha’s Table’s Market Coordinator at our S.E. headquarters, The Commons, to complete essential set-up and operational tasks and ultimately ensure that community members have a joyful experience when picking up their groceries.

Assist Lobby Market Coordinator with market set-up tasks, including setting up tables, baskets, and other suppliesSupport unloading and organizing produce and dry goods deliveries from vendorsEnsure the market is stocked with grocery items throughout the marketInteract with community members in a front-facing role to provide excellent customer service

The Baby and Me program at Martha's Table offers a nurturing space for mothers to connect, grow, and access essential resources. Through workshops, activities, and in-person sessions, we aim to: Foster a supportive community for mothers. Provide education on parenting, wellness, and personal development. Distribute essential supplies, meals, and tools to empower families. This position will support the Baby and Me Coordinator to complete essential set-up and operational tasks and ultimately ensure that mothers have a great experience during the in-person sessions while accessing vital support during the Baby & Me Sprinkle Shower.

The Food Prep Volunteer shift at Maycroft directly supports McKenna's Wagon program by preparing and packing hot meals and sandwich bags for evening meal distribution.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow recipe directions and instructionsPractice kitchen safety rules (washing hands, sanitizing, wearing gloves, closed-toe shoes, and hair net) at all timesUse of basic knife skills (chopping, slicing, etc.) and kitchen appliances (blender, stove, oven, dehydrator, etc.)Portioning, packing, and storing food samples and mealsLabel all leftover ingredients and stored samples with “best by date” on themEnsure walk-in maintenance and organization per the staff’s directionsLoad van with food when necessaryKitchen clean-up

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Developed May Include:

McKenna’s Wagon is Martha’s Table’s mobile food van, which provides a hot meal 365 days a year to neighbors experiencing hunger and housing insecurity. The McKenna’s Wagon Assistant will ensure that food service each night is a success by helping to set up, manage, and break down the hot meal distribution at two sites in downtown DC. They will also provide exemplary customer service for our neighbors visiting the wagon.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Distribution of food items to neighborsLine ManagementSet up a food distribution table, including hot meals and supplemental foodMaintaining a tidy space for food distributionAssist with breakdown and transportation of materials from 1st site to 2nd site

The Martha’s Outfitters Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the clothing boutique at Martha’s Table. The responsibilities include helping to prepare the store for its daily operations, sorting donations, organizing clothing and other items for distribution, supporting our Program Associates at guest check out, and helping to provide a positive guest experience for all.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

The Martha’s Outfitters Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the clothing boutique at Martha’s Table. The responsibilities include helping to prepare the store for its daily operations, sorting donations, organizing clothing and other items for distribution, supporting our Program Associates at guest check out, and helping to provide a positive guest experience for all.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Sorting donations and organizing accessories for shoppersPreparing clothing for the store floorAssisting with registration and checkout for guestsMaintaining the organizational standard of a neat, clean, and organized storeSupporting inventory managementWe provide exceptional customer service and maintain a warm and inviting guest atmosphere for all customers, staff, and donors. 

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Developed May Include:

Customer service skills - Speaking with guests and staff to help meet customer needs. Organizational skills: Identifying types and sizes of clothing items and arranging them for inventory and distribution, creating an organizational and distribution system for special bonus items, among other skills. Inventory Management: Sorting items by type and size and counting types and sizes of clothing items.Building an understanding of fashion, including business apparel: building a familiarity with clothing types, sizes, and styles through donation sorting and organization. Developing a commitment to compassion, respect, teamwork, and accountability: successfully working with a diverse array of individuals, including other volunteers, guests, and staff, towards a common goal.

Families can shop at no cost for high-quality produce and pantry staples. This position will support Martha’s Table’s Market Leaders to complete essential set-up and operational tasks and ultimately ensure that community members have a joyful experience when picking up their groceries.

Assist Market Leader with market set-up tasks, including setting up tables, baskets, and other suppliesSupport unloading and organizing produce and dry goods deliveries from vendorsEnsure the market is stocked with grocery items throughout the marketInteract with community members in a front-facing role to provide excellent customer service

Position Overview: 

The Healthy Happy Hour series is designed to further promote food access to D.C. families at our headquarters, The Commons. During this activity, participants receive mocktails, healthy snacks, take-home produce (from our garden), nutrition education, and engage in emotional wellness discussions/activities. This workshop is held on our garden terrace, helping to provide much-needed access to safe, usable green space in the local community while addressing wellness needs.

Families can shop at no cost for high-quality produce and pantry staples. This position will support Martha’s Table’s Market Leaders to complete essential set-up and operational tasks and ultimately ensure that community members have a joyful experience when picking up their groceries.
