Our Joyful Food Markets provide access to healthy and nutritious food through monthly pop-up events at more than 50 elementary schools in Wards 7 and 8. Families can shop at no cost for high-quality produce and pantry staples. This position will support Martha’s Table’s Market Leaders to complete essential set-up and operational tasks and ultimately ensure that community members have a joyful experience when picking up their groceries. 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist Market Leader with market set-up tasks, including setting up tables, baskets, and other suppliesSupport unloading and organizing produce and dry goods deliveries from vendorsEnsure the market is stocked with grocery items throughout the marketInteract with community members in a front-facing role to provide excellent customer service

Interpersonal skills: Interacting with other volunteers and staff effectively to ensure a seamless market experienceCommunication skills: Actively listening to other volunteers, staff, and community members when they communicate their needsProblem-solving and time-management skills: Working in a fast-paced market environment to balance operational needs vs. the needs of the market. For example, if we are out of stock of a popular food item, but the line is very long.Leadership skills: If necessary, delegate tasks to other volunteers so they can effectively support youOrganizational skills: Ensure food inventory and supplies are stocked neatly

While performing the duties of this job, the assistant may be asked to stand for extended periods of time, comfortably lift 30-50 lbs., and maintain an active shift.
